Loretta Lynn Remembers Late Husband On Their Anniversary

Loretta Lynn married Oliver “Doolittle” Lynn 74 years ago on January 10. The couple had six children: Betty, Jack, Ernest, Clara, and twins Peggy and Patsy.

In her 2002 autobiography Still Woman Enough, Loretta wrote about how much her husband meant to her:

“I married Doo when I wasn’t but a child, and he was my life from that day on. But as important as my youth and upbringing was, there’s something else that made me stick to Doo. He thought I was something special, more special than anyone else in the world, and never let me forget it. That belief would be hard to shove out the door. Doo was my security, my safety net.”

Doolittle passed away in 1996 at the age of 69. He and Loretta had been married for 48 years at the time.

In 2018, Loretta said her track “Wouldn’t It Be Great” was the last song she ever wrote for her husband. She sang it for him shortly before he passed away.

As mentioned previously, Loretta and Doolittle would have celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary in 2022. Loretta sweetly paid tribute to her late husband on their special day, writing:

“74 years ago, my life changed forever when I married Doolittle. We had 48 years together and I sure wish he was still here! I miss him.”

Loretta referenced her song “Love is the Foundation” in the hashtags. She once performed the song for Doolittle on the set of her show Loretta and Friends in 1995. Watch that touching performance below.
