HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaiian Airlines launched its new nonstop service from Honolulu to Orlando on Thursday.

The new service will offer twice-weekly nonstop flights on Thursday and Sunday.

Hawaiian celebrated the start of its inaugural service with a gate ceremony at the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport with lei, music and dance by the Hawaiian Airlines Serenaders.

There was also a blessing of the Airbus A330 aircraft and remarks were made by Hawaiian Airlines President and CEO Peter Ingram and Gov. David Ige.

Prior to the start of this new service, Orlando was one of the largest U.S. travel markets to the Hawaiian Islands without nonstop flights.

Because of its popularity, Hawaiian Airlines decided to offer this new service.

Orlando becomes Hawaiian’s third Eastern gateway city — along with New York and Boston.

Hawaiian Airlines also announced it is increasing service between Hawaii and Florida to three weekly flights from June 1 through Aug. 10 to meet summer demand.

The inaugural flight from Orlando to Hawaii departs on Saturday morning, arriving in Honolulu in the afternoon.
